Angophora hispida, or Dwarf Apple. This lovely summer-flowering tree grows to about 6 metres. Its large clusters of fluffy cream-coloured flowers are irresistible to nectar-feeding birds and colourful beetles. Sydney Red Gum is one of my favourite native trees. Botanically known as Angophora costata. It has this beautiful smooth bark that can be orange red. The white flowers are usually covered with bees but the Varroa mite is killing them. A Lorikeet sat in the tree feeding on the nectar filled flowers, not at all worried about me.
